3rd Anniversary of CPN

I’ve always loved the old theme of my old blog (even though I ended up changing it at least 300 times over the course of two years).  The theme (qwilm-0.3) was passe and clunky then. Now, it’s akin to a bad early 80’s domestic auto design. That’s part of the charm for me since I like to ramble on about the latest-and-greatest shiny web objects.

So, I decided to resurrect that now decripid and almost-non-googlable WP theme, brush off the cobwebs and reapply it here. I think it looks quite nice again.

By the way, it’s the 3rd anniversary of CPN today.  I started that blog after a long day of lawn mowing and brainstorming. For some reason, I thought I should blog about my views on how these crazy new things like Twitter and Feedburner could change or improve affiliate marketing.  Things worked out and my career evolved into places I would have never considered or had the opportunity to consider without CPN.  So, thank you if you were a reader/supporter there. It was always a ton of fun even if we were yelling at each other (Molander). Good luck to Evan and the CostPerNews team in the future.

And I think there’s still a niche for investigating how Twitter or Facebook or open standards or Open API’s can influence and improve online marketing.

So, three years later it’s good to be here still annoying people about Track, RSS and democratized platforms.

Twitter OPML

This is incredibly useful:

Now with that important disclaimer out of the way, here’s the service:

http://tw.opml.org/get?user=cluelessnewbie

That returns the OPML Subscription List for the Twitter user named cluelessnewbie.

via HowTo: OPML for Twitter subscription lists.

Not very sexy, but if you want to have a heavily curated Following list on Twitter or subscribe to the folks that someone you admire, this is invaluable.

Or if you work in a team environment and want to make sure that everyone on the team is following the same folks for collaboration or listening purposes, etc.

Here’s my subscription list btw (heavy on tech, teachers, science, NC and affiliate marketing).

Twitter Predictions

From the always prescient Steve Rubel

Saw this Pew stat (PDF) in my email via the Harvard Business Review and thought it presented a notable disconnect. Some 45% of advertisers say that Twitter is in its infancy and its use will grow exponentially over the next few years. And consumers? More than two-thirds (69%) say they do not know enough about Twitter to have an opinion about it.

Fascinating stats if you’re into such data presentations.

This lends towards my point that we are still at a crossroads of deciding if Twitter and the technological evolution it represents will stay just a (albeit very powerful) communications network or morph into an actual standard akin to IMAP, POP, or HTTP. I happen to think that will inevitably be the case in the next five years.

Regardless, marketers are already confident that Twitter is a source for exploration and responsible interaction with present and possible markets/individuals/consumers. To avoid Twitter now because it is still in its infancy (as a marketer or just person on the web) is a mistake.

Sometimes, I wish I could hitch a ride with Dr. Moses Nebogipfel to see what happens to our little Twitter Toddler.
